1.4 Diffusion of Innovations & Change
Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. (PSC 1.4/ISTE 1d)
Artifact: Action Plan
Reflection:
The action and evaluation plan was created to create goals for my school. These goals would be to lead towards the school having more technology and technology use for the engagement and enrichment of students. This artifacts gave time frames for how long it would take to implement technology into lessons, increase devices, gain technology coaches and more. This plan also gave steps that the school would have to take to reach those goals in the given time frame.
This artifact requires researching the timeline, budget, responsibilities and evaluation process involved with the changes. This artifact required coming up with strategies and a plan to successfully implement the improvements/ changes given within the time frame given. I had to research ways to manage successfully implementing the ideas in this artifact as well.
As stated before, this artifact taught me that when making improvements in a school, there are many factors to pay attention to. There is also a lot of careful planning that must take place. You have to look at a timeline, strategies, evaluation methods, budget, who is responsible for what and success indicators. I also learned that some improvements that we want done in a school that involve technology could take years to completely implement. All improvements won’t happen right away. This artifact taught me the importance of researching before trying to implement a new strategy or any new ideas. This artifact helped showed me that there is a lot of planning and managing involved in implementing change in schools. If I could change anything about completing this artifact, I would take more time to plan out and research improvements more. This way my school could plan to properly budget and carry out any other actions needed for the plan to be successful.
Just as stated in standard 1.3, the work that went into this artifact impacted school improvement because it gave ways to improve technology use in the school. It planned for teachers to use more technology, for an increase in technology literacy, an increase in devices in classrooms, and a permanent technology coach.
