Candidates model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to engage students in authentic learning experiences. (PSC 2.3/ISTE 2c)
Artifact: Real World Experience Project
Reflection:
This artifact required creating a real world experience project for students. In this artifact the candidate worked with a team (two other teachers) to plan a visit to the CNN center to learn how meteorologist do their job and ask questions about the everyday duties of a meteorologist. The students then had the opportunity to come back to school and be meteorologist. They were able to use green screens and recording tools to video themselves doing the job of a meteorologist. The students critiqued each other and used office 365 to collaborate and communicate.
This artifact met this standard by giving students the opportunity to visit, learn and ask questions about a profession. It took the students outside of the classroom and gave them a chance to experience something new. This artifact also gave students the opportunity to role-play and practice the responsibilities of a meteorologist.
Completing this artifact allowed me to gain understanding on the importance of exposing students to opportunities outside the school and using those experiences to build classroom skills and experiences. If I could go back and change anything from the project, I would have found a more kid friendly/ age appropriate tool for students to collaborate and communicate.
This artifact improved student learning. The artifact gave students the opportunity to have an experience outside of the school. It also gave students the opportunity to role play and experience a potential future occupation. The artifact helped students build their skills in technology use and in communication as well.
