Artifact: Online Learning Experience
Reflection:
In ITEC 7481, this standard was met with the Online Learning Experience. This artifact consisted of taking the OLE Unit Plan from the previous course and creating the course in an LMS that could be implemented during ITEC 7482. For this artifact an LMS was chosen first. For example I chose Edmodo. Throughout the semester the artifact was built on. Items such as the syllabus, modules, resources, parent information, student rights, videos, readings, activities, etc. were added through out the semester. By the end of the semester there was an available course ready for students to participate in. In the course the students have to give students a variety of ways to gain information and reflect on their work and the work of others. As the instructor I had to use what I knew about the students to create appropriate assignments and means of gaining information.
This artifact shows the mastery of this standard in a variety of ways. The instructor/ candidate had to analyze what was known about the students in the course to create opportunities for problem solving and higher order thinking for students. The candidates created opportunity for the students to use the self-regulation and reflections piece of the standard through their activities and reflections. Students will also showed evaluating skills by responding to the reflections of their peers.
Through this artifact I learned that just like in a traditional classroom setting, students completing online courses need the same opportunities to experience higher order thinking, therefore the teacher must analyze the needs and wants of the student. If I could change anything about completing this artifact I would have found a variety of ways to meet these needs of students besides the typical discussion post and peer responses.
This artifact impacted student learning. It ensured that students were having the opportunity to be process information in a variety of ways, pushing them to be higher order thinkers, and learn to be creative self regulators who use reflection to improve themselves and others.
