4.2 Safe, Healthy, Legal & Ethical Use
Candidates model and facilitate the safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies. (PSC 4.2/ISTE 5b)
Artifact: Blog Post
Reflection:
This artifact required writing a blog post to inform educators on Internet safety for students. The post begins with my opinion on Internet and the importance of Internet safety. Websites on children Internet safety are provided as resources for teachers and/ or parents. The blog post then gives strategies for teachers and parents on how to keep children safe when using the Internet.
The artifact demonstrates the mastery of the standard because the candidate is explaining and giving resources to show knowledge and give others knowledge on the importance of Internet safety for children. The candidate is also giving examples to show other adults ways to keep their child or student safe when using the Internet.
This artifact taught me how serious teaching Internet safety is. I’ve always seen Internet safety as something that should be common sense for adults to teach children. I never realized how many parents or students don’t teach their students Internet safety and let them freely roam the Internet. The more I went through the instructional technology courses and paid attention to what goes on with students and the internet, I realized more students than I thought do not apply internet safety to their experiences with technology. I wish I had a better understanding of how many students are not being taught internet safety, and I wish I would’ve went more in-depth.
This artifact impacted faculty development and student learning. It can be used as a resource for teachers to help better prepare their students to be safe, healthy, legal and ethical internet users. It also will benefit and impact the students being taught the internet safety.
