Artifact: Online Learning Experience
Reflection:
The Online Learning Experience in ITEC 7481 met this standard. This artifact consisted of taking the OLE Unit Plan from the previous course and creating the course in an LMS that could be implemented during ITEC 7482. For this artifact an LMS was chosen first. For example I chose Edmodo. Throughout the semester the artifact was built on. Items such as the syllabus, modules, resources, parent information, student rights, videos, readings, activities, etc. were added through out the semester. By the end of the semester there was an available course ready for students to participate in.
In this artifact the candidate included parent information on student rights and diversity. The candidate also presented the information for the students different ways based on how the students were in the traditional classroom. In the traditional classroom this group does well with not too many assignments (due to their age), videos, and activities. Knowing this information about the learning needs of the students, this is what the candidate used for the majority of the artifact.
From this experience I learned that as an online educator, just like in the traditional classroom, each time a course or unit is taught it will not be exactly the same. Just as the traditional classroom teacher, an online educator has to be able to adapt and adjust to the types of students and base the assignments/ activities and the way information is presented based on their needs. If I could go back and change anything, I would have made my course have more options and available activities so that when the time comes when I have a student who has a different learning need or when a new student joins the course I am already prepared to meet their needs.
The work from this artifact impacts student learning. This standard focuses on making sure the instructor meets the needs of their student to ensure student success. One of the most important qualities of teachers is understanding how to differentiate to help engage all students and give all students the chance to be successful.
