3.5 Basic Troubleshooting
Candidates troubleshoot basic software and hardware problems common in digital learning environments. (PSC 3.5/ISTE 3e)
Artifact: SmartNote Troubleshooting
Reflection:
In my classroom I consistently use a tool called SmartNote. Often times SmartNote will not allow me to upload files and videos the way I want or it will not let me write on the part of screen that I want to write on. I have learned how to reset my board and work with the program to get it to go back to its normal setting.
This artifact demonstrates the mastery of this standard because it shows that I can troubleshoot and work to correct problems with technology within my personal classroom. Many times you educators need a program or tool to work instantly and there is no time to call for assistance from a technology coach or specialist. Learning to fix / troubleshoot problems with tools and programs within the classroom has become key in completing lessons the way I want in the classroom.
From this artifact I learned the importance of understanding technology and being able to take care of issues with classroom technology on my own. If I could change anything about completing troubleshooting in my classroom, it would be to be able to permanently fix issues and not just do temporary fixes.
This artifact impacts student learning. Technology is a key factor in many of my everyday lessons. In this case I use SmartNote for all content areas and create many of my lessons around the tool. When the tool begins to have issues, I have to be prepared to fix the problem or have a plan B for my teaching so that students still receive the same amount of content.
