Artifact: Online Learning Experience
Reflection:
In ITEC 7481, this standard was met with the Online Learning Experience. This artifact consisted of taking the OLE Unit Plan from the previous course and creating the course in an LMS that could be implemented during ITEC 7482. For this artifact an LMS was chosen first. For example I chose Edmodo. Throughout the semester the artifact was built on. Items such as the syllabus, modules, resources, parent information, student rights, videos, readings, activities, etc. were added through out the semester. By the end of the semester there was an available course ready for students to participate in. In the course the students have to give students a variety of ways to gain information and reflect on their work and the work of others. As the instructor I had to use what I knew about the students to create appropriate assignments and means of gaining information.
In this artifact the candidate shows mastery of the standard by creating the course to fit the learning needs of the students that it is created for. The students being used in the course being created have minimal knowledge of technology; they are beginning readers and non- readers and they are only independent to an extent. The candidate had to differentiate and present information and assignments in a way that met all the students’ needs that would be taking the course. The candidate also created options on how to complete certain assignments to meet the learning needs of the students who would be taking the course.
This experience furthered my knowledge and belief that it part of an educators job to find ways to meet the needs of all his or her students. Differentiating assignments and how material is presented gives all your students an equal opportunity to be successful in the classroom or course. If I could change one thing, I would have added more of a variety for my students and differentiated per student or per groups of students more. Even though I feel this way in the traditional classroom too, and I have to remind myself that I can only do so much with what time permits.
This artifact impacts student learning. It is forcing the candidate/ instructor to create a course that will meet the individual learning needs of the students taking the course.
