Artifacts: Online Learning Experience
Refection:
In ITEC 7481, this standard was met with the Online Learning Experience. This artifact consisted of taking the OLE Unit Plan from the previous course and creating the course in an LMS that could be implemented during ITEC 7482. For this artifact an LMS was chosen first. For example I chose Edmodo. Throughout the semester the artifact was built on. Items such as the syllabus, modules, resources, parent information, student rights, surveys/quizzes, videos, readings, activities, etc. were added through out the semester. By the end of the semester there was an available course ready for students to participate in. In the course the students have to give students a variety of ways to gain information and reflect on their work and the work of others. As the instructor I had to use what I knew about the students to create appropriate assignments and means of gaining information.
The Online Learning Experience met the requirements for these assignments through the survey monkey quizzes. These quizzes were given though the course to see what students knew prior to learning the material, to check progress and to see what students gained by the end of the course. The discussion post and peer responses, were used to measure students learning and understanding of material as well.
This standard increased my understanding on the importance of assessing to drive instruction. It also taught me that assessment is just as important in an online setting as in the traditional classroom. If I were to change anything in this artifact, I would have had more ways to assess the students.
This artifact impacted student learning. As educators we use assessment to drive our instruction. In the online course, I could use the assessments to decide if I need to change activities and how information is presented in later modules to help the students be successful.
