3.1 Classroom Management & Collaborative Learning
Candidates model and facilitate effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies to maximize teacher and student use of digital tools and resources. (PSC 3.1/ISTE 3a)
Artifact: Real World Experience Project
Reflection:
This artifact required creating a real world experience project for students. In this artifact the candidate worked with a team (two other teachers) to plan a visit to the CNN center to learn how meteorologist do their job and ask questions about the everyday duties of a meteorologist. The students then had the opportunity to come back to school and be meteorologist. They were able to use green screens and recording tools to video themselves doing the job of a meteorologist. The students critiqued each other and used office 365 to collaborate and communicate.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of this standard because the instructor(s) had to develop a plan on how they would effectively manage the classroom as students completed the assignment. The whole project promotes collaboration amongst students. The students work in groups to complete the project and part of the project is students going in and giving feedback to their peers.
Completing this artifact allowed me to gain understanding on the importance of exposing students to opportunities outside the school and using those experiences to build classroom skills and experiences. It also taught me the importance of teaching students how to communicate with each other in a respectful way. If I could go back and change anything from the project, I would have found a more kid friendly/ age appropriate tool for students to collaborate and communicate. I also would have had students practice giving feedback and using the Office 365 tool to communicate.
This artifact improved student learning. The artifact gave students the opportunity to have an experience outside of the school. It also gave students the opportunity to role play and experience a potential future occupation. The artifact also helped students build their skills in technology use and in communication as well.
