Podcasts
Prior to this module I was not familiar with podcasts. I had heard the name and I knew that I could access podcasts from my phone, iPhone and computer using iTunes. After exploring, I realized that podcast could be useful in the classroom. Podcasts can cover any subject, therefore it can be used for all areas of learning. These areas include math, science, social studies, and english language arts. Educators can use podcasts to differentiate and teach in the classroom. Teachers can also have students demonstrate their knowledge of a subject by creating a podcast.
I explored Grammar Girl when exploring podcast this week Grammar Girl is a podcast that works on daily grammar. The podcasts was created to help with common grammar mistakes when communicating. The podcast is a great tool to help with writing in and out of the classroom I also explored TEDTalks Education and I found a link that took me to Ted Radio Hour. The TEDTalk podcast teach educators about new approaches and gives them more options on ways to approach everyday situations in education so that the students benefit more from the situation.
Podcast can help support students with different learning needs. This means teacher can use podcast to help with differentiation in their classrooms. Podcast are a great tool for auditory learners and who may need auditory support. The podcast can give some students the opportunity to listen to the same information multiple times if needed. If a student is absent or behind podcast could be used for children to catch up on work. Podcast could also be used as a center. In that center the student could be getting receiving a lesson without the teacher physically being in front of them. Podcast give students the opportunity to show their understanding of a standard by producing a video or audio product to share with their peers and their teacher.

Having Fun With Podcasts
I took some time to experiment with making a podcast. I decided to make a podcast about the states of matter since that is what we are finishing up in science in my second grade classroom. I began by making a recording using Sound Recorder on my work computer. I then sent myself the file so that it could be opened on my home computer. I the created a PodOmatic account. I used this account to create the podcast that you can view using the link below.

Exploring Visual Tools
As an elementary educator I feel it is important for me to expose students to things that they have not experienced yet in life. I have found that giving students visuals to refer to usually helps with their understanding of lessons. The tools that I am exploring help give me ideas and options for creating visuals for my students. I went back to explore the Gliffy graphic organizer again. It is a tool that I plan to get comfortable with so that I can implement it in my classroom. This week I explored Webspiration and Bubbl.us. After playing around with both tools, I plan to implement them in my classroom and introduce them to the rest of my second grade team. I used Bubbl.us to make a charter trait graph on the Book Why Spiders Have Small Waste that I have been using in my class. I liked the site because it was simple and straight forward. It's a great tool for teachers who don't want to spend a lot of time figuring out technology. I used Webspiration to create a character chart using the main charter of the book Crazy Hair Day. This was my favorite. I was able to change the shapes of my bubbles and it had many tools for me to play with. This tool was also an easy straight forward tool to use.
